This is an excellent introduction to the "hard" (scientifically accurate) science fiction genre, about a multi-generational starship's journey to colonize a neighboring star system. The author, Kim Stanley Robinson, is one of the best contemporary science fiction authors and has written many other works that are well worth exploring.
