Writing with Skill: Level 2 (Part 1)

Seventh grade 10 months Core curriculum

Description

This course covers the first half of Writing with Skill Level 2. We suggest commencing it upon completion of the Writing with Skill Level 1 text, or at around seventh grade.

The Writing with Skill series is a continuation of the Writing with Ease series for elementary grades, and teaches expository writing for middle and high school students. The practice lessons are based on selections from great books and are thorough without being overly time-consuming.

Each book provides a daily lesson for four days per week over the course of an eight-month academic year. However, we suggest working on this book only two days a week in order to allow the student ample time to focus on this and other coursework. At this pace, you can plan to allocate two years to each book.

If your student has an interest in creative writing, allocate some of your writing time to this as well. Have them read the optional book Spilling Ink, then try their hand at producing a short story or even a novel. It's easy and inexpensive to self-publish books today, and we know many kids who have done so.
