World History

Ninth grade 1.00 high school credit Core curriculum

Description

This course is ideal for students who enjoy reading historical fiction and are looking for an approachable introduction to world history. It combines a series of Great Courses lectures, a readable narrative of world history as a spine text, and a collection of memoirs and historical fiction set in various times and places.

This course is built around the same Great Courses lecture series and spine text (Andrew Marr's A History of the World) as the high school Honors World History course (www.nautilushomeschool.com/course/world-history). The difference is that the honors course supplements these with challenging books on broad historical themes written for adults, whereas this course instead assigns a variety of historical novels and memoirs. Also, the research paper is optional for this course.

The historical fiction books recommended here are mostly written for young people (middle grade and up). Those looking to incorporate more challenging historical novels written for adults can add selections from our high school historical fiction course (www.nautilushomeschool.com/course/historical-fiction).
